San Pedro de Atacama is a very small town in the middle of Chile’s Atacama desert. The town itself is a quaint, lovable desert town, like many of the small desert towns in this pocket of the world. But let’s be honest, people do not come to San Pedro for San Pedro. People come to San Pedro as a launching point to explore the vast and incredible surroundings of the Atacama desert. This is the driest place on earth.

La Paz is a crazy, fascinating city. I was reminded while wandering the streets of La Paz of a quote from the movie Clueless that I think describes the city perfectly. “She’s a full-on Monet… It’s like the painting, see? From far away, it’s okay, but up close, it’s a big old mess”.
I do not believe that I can give an honest assessment of what the city of Sucre is like. It would be like a tourist in New York spending 5 days in the city without ever leaving midtown, except to visit upstate for a day. This is essentially what my time was like in Sucre. I spent entire days only in the city center. I can however say that I really enjoyed my time in Sucre, and if my travel time was not becoming increasingly limited, I would have like to spend a lot more time there. I think it may be my favorite of the big cities I have visited in South America so far. 
Day 2, more beauty, more mountains, more deserts, more alpacas, fewer trees, fewer and fewer and fewer signs of life. I was actually quite astounded by the complete lack of human touch that stretched on for hours and hours, days in fact. 
I am sad to report that this is my final blog post of Argentina (for now). This region has something for everyone. A big city, a rich historical background, and unimaginable natural beauty. You can enjoy the hustle and bustle of San Salvador de Jujuy, hike incredible mountain trails, horse-back ride through Pacha Mama (Mother-Nature), salivate over traditional regional foods, be enchanted by the many charming little towns, and feed your knowledge by visiting historical sites.
