Mocoa, Colombia ~ Jungle-lite

Mocoa is a day-hiker’s dream. This lush landscape is streaming with trails waiting to be explored in the mountainous jungle terrain of Colombia’s Amazon. I’ve given Mocoa a little nickname, “jungle-lite”. I gave it the name because I think this is the perfect place for someone to visit who might be a little nervous about diving deep into the wild, but has the curiosity to sense the jungle. The day hikes around Mocoa are a great way to dip your toes into The Amazon and get a feel for it without going “full on Tarzan”. You will surely see colorful butterflies, interesting plant-life, and stunning waterfalls. But beware, It is highly likely you will leave ready for more jungle. Camping at Watkins Glen State Park in Upstate NY

12smAfter several months on a different continent, it’s easy to forget that there are amazingly beautiful things to see right here in “my own back yard”.  I decided to turn what would have been an otherwise boring road trip into a chance to explore a little corner of the good ol’ USA (and Canada). Iguazu Falls, Argentina

The Iguazu Falls are one of many reasons why I chose South America.  Maybe a year and half ago, when my life was still normal, I remember googling amazing places to visit.  When I came across images of the falls, I looked at my now ex-boyfriend and said “I want to go here”.  The images stood out in my mind ever since.  My third and final day at Iguazu Falls did not disappoint.   Continue reading “Iguazu Falls, Argentina”

The Macuco Trail at Iguazu Falls, Argentina

For day 2 of my Iguazu adventures, I actually did not go to “the” falls.  Instead I chose to take a day to wander Senedero Macuco.  A nature trail which takes about an hour to reach the solo Salta Arrechea waterfall.  This is the one place in the park where visitors have the opportunity to swim.  The trail also provides an opportunity for viewing wildlife like capuchin monkeys, rare birds, lizards, unusual insects and masses of butterflies.

Iguazu Falls, Brazilian Side

I spent three days exploring Iguazu Falls and it’s subtropical rainforest surroundings.  This place can be described as nothing short of magical.  “Magical”  seems to be the only word I can find that comes close to describing my time here.  Each of my three days was an incredibly unique experience.  For this reason, I need to do a separate post about each day here.  I begin on day 1, by exploring the Brazilian side of the falls. Balmaceda and Serrano Glacier Tour

3smI have been in Puerto Natales, Chile for Several days now.  I am going to try to do two posts today to catch everyone up on what I’ve done here.  It’s been pretty incredible.  On my first day here, I took a lovely, leisurely boat tour to two glaciers. I met lovely people on the boat, and saw some incredible things.  This post is going to be more images than words.  Continue reading “Balmaceda and Serrano Glacier Tour”
