San Pedro de Atacama is a very small town in the middle of Chile’s Atacama desert. The town itself is a quaint, lovable desert town, like many of the small desert towns in this pocket of the world. But let’s be honest, people do not come to San Pedro for San Pedro. People come to San Pedro as a launching point to explore the vast and incredible surroundings of the Atacama desert. This is the driest place on earth.

“Caparoles” is the term for the style of traditional Andean dance which found it’s birth place in northern Bolivia. Caparoles is folkloric with it’s ritualistic roots. Today, it is performed to the beats and melodies of Bolivian folk music and is considered to be an Icon of Bolivian culture. Bolivian Dance is a spectacular art form! La Paz is a crazy, fascinating city. I was reminded while wandering the streets of La Paz of a quote from the movie Clueless that I think describes the city perfectly. “She’s a full-on Monet… It’s like the painting, see? From far away, it’s okay, but up close, it’s a big old mess”.
